"In a storytelling style reminiscent of Ray Bradbury, Dean R. Giles weaves one engaging tale after another. Magic, dragons, virus-carrying insects, heroes & heroine, all come to life with words that paint in vivid images. It is said science fiction is a depiction of the real; Fantasy is a depiction of the unreal. Here in DRAGONS RESTORED we have both worlds coming together."
"A great collection of stories each with their own twist which I did enjoy. Fantastic creativity.
I loved Dragons Restored and would have loved this to be a full-length novel.
Original ideas which are thoughtful and intriguing and not at all what I expected. A great read not only for YA but anyone who enjoys a great story. "
"I enjoyed these short stories, especially the imaginative plots, powers, and worlds painted by the author. I wanted very much for the adventures to go on!"
Dragons Restored and Other Short Stories Young Adult Fantasy Fiction YA Adventure eBook Dean R Giles Nathan Giles
Dragons Restored by Dean Giles is an imaginative compilation of 5 stories: The Allure of the Trap, The Infester, Imprinted (written by Dean’s son Nathan), The Rune Master’s Apprentice, and the namesake of the book, Dragons Restored. The first 3 stories are shorter in length and are the strength of the collection. My favorite of the shorts is Imprinted – how one woman became a powerful ruler through just two words: Trust me. It’s a clever story with strong, polished writing and a nice twist at the end.I unfortunately did not enjoy the longer pieces as much. The Rune Master’s Apprentice, though dropping you straight into action, has a confusing plot and is lacking in a little backstory to help the reader understand certain motivations. This story just did not click for me. Dragons Restored, however, is a promising tale that I could actually see fleshed out into a full-length novel, even a series. With a little work on the mechanics and presentation, this would be a top-notch story.

Dragons Restored and Other Short Stories Young Adult Fantasy Fiction YA Adventure eBook Dean R Giles Nathan Giles Reviews
As a boy-responsive literacy consultant, I'm always looking for books of short stories that will engage boys who really don't want to read. Dean R. Giles' book (co-written with his son), Dragons Restored, perfectly fits the bill! The stories are short and the plot lines intriguing that a boy will read to the end in one sitting (they're also great to read aloud too!). The great news...there's another intriguing story for him to read the next day, and that's how to build a reader one awesome story at a time.
This collection was quite interesting. Although written for YA, I found the stories enjoyable and entertaining. Each story was different. I completely enjoyed the twists at the endings. There are five stories in all to enjoy, each beginning with a picture. The stories are short enough to be devoured during a break. My favorite was story number three, Imprinted. The 3-D picture of the world was thought-provoking, but the ending was one I had not expected. It made me chuckle.
Here are a handful of sci-fi short stories that are short enough to give you a feeling for the writing of the author, Dean R. Giles, even though I was hooked and read the entire book in one sitting. The tales range from funny to poignant and are full of adventure, suspense and mystery. The first story “The Allure of the Trap” is a family story about a Chancellor to the Council of Elders, but not all it what it seems, having an unexpected ending; followed by “The Infester Imprinted” a villain who uses bugs as a weapon; “The Rune Master’s Apprentice starring a couple of teens in this thriller, my favorite of the group; and the “Dragons Restored” about a magician and a dragon and how they team up to overcome the adversity of their moment in time and place. I enjoyed all these stories and look forward to reading more from this author who is obviously a wonderful storyteller. Give it a try, you won’t regret it.
DRAGONS RESTORED is an exceptional collection of short stories geared toward a YA audience, but perfectly suited for all ages.

Open your mind to possibilities beyond imagination. Grab a comfortable chair, because you'll be there a while. Once you start reading, it's hard to put down.
Dragons Restored and Other Short Stories is a collection of five short stories of varying lengths, each heavily reliant upon science fiction or magic. Dragons and/or magicians are present in three stories while two others feature creatures with inventively strong but evil powers. In “The Allure of the Trap” we find a world of dragons hoping to reconnect to the world of humans by influencing the development of a “fire-bridge” through humans’ the discovery of cold fusion. “The Infester” is a creature, which has discovered how to engineer virus-carrying insects to cause infestations and then, for a steep price, clean them up with other virus-carrying insects. The creature’s own identity—as a human or some variety of engineered species itself—remains obscure. In “The Imprinted” a woman who learns to influence others so that they develop unconditional trust in her, contrives to gain control of the whole world, but is foiled by her ex-husband who has lost his trust. Her solution is drastic. The story was written by the main author’s son. The “Rune Master’s Apprentice” was the story I enjoyed the most, although I must admit that I may have understood it the least. Using rune stones, which can be transported via cellphone images and carry powers of peacefulness and empathy as well as other attibutes, the heroine, Evawn, escapes from her evil nemesis, Alan and finally conquers him, leading to the freedom of both her and her family. The mix of magic and emotional change, which the magic engenders was something I found both unusual and fascinating, although I got a little lost in the plot. “Dragons Restored” is the title story and concerns a magician who has been enslaved by another race and must escape and eventually conquer them with the help of powerful magic gems and a dragon, perhaps the last of its own race.
The stories in Dragons Restored and Other Stories were all highly imaginative. Almost every one surprised me at some point in the story, either with the revelation of a character’s identity or an unexpected turn of the plot. Each story was preceded by a fitting and nicely done illustration. It’s a fun book to read, and one that would be enjoyed by most young adults who like to read fantasy or science fiction.
